“Snapping Beans”

I’m not sure when I first read this poem, but it’s part of my Thanksgiving routine now. I typically share this poem with my former students, now freshmen in college, around this time of year and think about what they’re learning and how they growing and changing. Sometimes I share this with their parents as they prepare to welcome a child back home. I love the perspective and think it speaks to us no matter the stage of life – whether identifying with the student or the grandmother. Here’s to our former students figuring out their place in the world and the blessing we have of being a small part of their journey.
