#Bookstagram – What My Students are Reading

My original idea for this post was for 20 students to review 20 books for 2020; however, only 11 of my students wrote reviews. It’s been a hard year . . . . So here’s what my students are reading and recommending this year. Enjoy! When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka reviewed by Joanna B. When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka reviewed by Joanna B. This is a novella-length book that tells the story of an anonymous Japanese family sent to internment camps in the 1940s. Otsuka’s writing style often blurs the lines between poetry and prose, and she structures the novel in a unique way which shifts the focus from this specific family to the experiences of Japanese families at large.
