In case you’re not familiar with Jericho Brown (doesn’t everyone know him now?), let me introduce you to him. I’m partial to him because he’s a hometown guy, teaching creative writing at Emory University in Atlanta. His collection The Tradition (one of my most favorite book covers ever) won the Pulitzer Prize in 2020. His website, Jerichobrown.com, has more information on him and his work. I encourage you to check it out and order a copy of The Tradition if you don’t have one. My students LOVE Jericho Brown and find his poems to be both thought provoking and accessible. I’ll link some specific poems I use in class (including a Frankenstein one for those of you in the middle of that now) at the end of this post.
