Purpose:The purpose of this assignment is to introduce the concepts of literary analysis. Instead of jumping into what teachers expect students to be able to do by the end of the first term (or later, or sooner, depending on your audience), looking at visual art will give a space for something a little more familiar. And it’s safe! No passages to read. No details to miss. It’s all visual, and therefore, easier. My students always love this activity. Overview:Students will look at 4-5 works of art of your choice. The pieces I use will be provided in this lesson, but use what you feel comfortable with. This assignment is extremely flexible in that way.
